"Sandler, let's go." The trainer pushed up her hat as she looked back at her favorite Pokemon, a Lucario who was a head taller than her but still very loyal.

The Lucario collected the Oran berries he had collected and returned to her, placing the items in the bag on her back. "Should be more than enough."

She nodded as they continued walking. "I already have hyper potions but Hydra likes berries better so..."

"Yeah I know." He walked along side her, best friends forever and always.

Today was a nice day. The sun was out, the sky blue. Some bird pokemon happily chirping in the tress nearby.

"Should I let Cookie out?" The trainer asked the opinion of her friend.

"Sure, why not?" Sandler chuckled at the suggestion.

Soon the plushie sized baby dialga was riding on his trainer's head.

Sandler looked up, alert and senseing trouble. "Sara, a Riolu needs help up ahead."

"Eh? Show me Sandler." She followed her Lucario at a run as she brought out two more of her team, a ninetails with a charcoal earing named Nix and a Gallade named Arthur. "Go you three, protect that Riolu."

Her Pokemon sped ahead of her to go to the kid's aid.

"Oh my..." Sara gently picked up the poor knocked out Riolu and held him gently. "Poor thing... What are you doing our here?" She looked up at her Pokemon. "Nix, Arthur, make sure no other Pokemon or humans come near us."

The two nodded and vanished into the brush. Sandler stayed behind to aid in the care of the young Riolu. Starting with getting some more Oran berries.

"This kid's so young and yet.." Sandler looked at the riolu's paws. "He's got aura burns. I'm adding a rawst berry to the mix to heal that."

"No Riolu should be attempting aura..." Sara cradled the poor thing in her arms as Sandler prepped a special mix of berries.

Sandler put the bowl down as Sara placed the Riolu on a blanket from her bag after bandaging him up. "I'm gonna get him some water too. Stay with him, Sandler."

Sandler nodded as she left to get some fresh water, he remained kneeling in front of the kid.

He wondered what had befallen this young Riolu. Little Cookie nuzzled the older child then curled up beside him like a favorite pet. Sandler chuckled at the sight. "Whatever has happened, that is over now."

Soon Sara was back with some water. "Here we go."

She helped the Riolu into a sitting position and slowly made him drink some water and eat a berry before letting him sleep again.

But it didn't last long, his eyes started to flicker open soon after.

"Ah! You're awake!" Sandler smiled at the sight. "How do you feel?"

"Gah!" He shot backwards and bared his teeth. "Humans!"

Sandler blinked then looked over at Sara who was talking to Nix and Arthur. "Oh you mean Sara? Yeah... She is a human but you shouldn't move right now. You're hurt pretty bad."

"So what?"

A small chirp made him look down at the little blue Pokemon. Sandler gently picked up the hatchling. "Cookie no... Go see Nix. Go on kiddo."

The little creature bounded off to play with the ninetails while Sandler looked back at the Riolu. "Look, I don't know what happened to you. But I have lived with Sara my whole life and she's never been cruel or turned away a Pokemon in need. It's alright if you don't want to stick around, but at least let us help you heal."

"Fine whatever." The Riolu rolled his eyes. "Free stuff, who can argue with that?"

"Now, I'm Sandler. What's your name?"

"Gale."

"Alright Gale. Here." He placed the bowl of berries in front of the Riolu and the cup of water. "It will help better than any spray potion."

He stood up and looked around them as he scanned the area with his aura. "..."

"Sandler sweetie," Sara called out to her Lucario. "Is something wrong?"

There was a pause before he replied. "It's Greyson and that houndoom pack again..." He growled.

"Ugh, again." The fact that she could understand the Lucario was startling to the Riolu. "We can't let them get Cookie here. Who know's what those idiots might do?" She picked up the little legend and held him close.

"Arthur, go take care of the pack." The Gallade nodded and lept away. "Nix, Cookie, return." The two returned to their heal balls. "Come on out Twili!" She tossed a pokeball and a dragonair appeared quickly curling up around the trainer who just laughed. "Yes yes... I love you too. But right now I need you and Sandler to keep an eye out for that black Charizard."

"Okay!" The dragonair was hyper but willing to please her, and that annoyed Sandler.

"Hyper active, chatter box of a sea snake..." Sandler muttered.

"A shiny?" Gale asked.

"A pyromaniac." Sara said then smiled at him. "Glad to see you're feeling better."

"Sure." He mumbled, looking away.

She just smiled. "Always the stubborn species... Alright. I won't bother you. Stay or go your choice."

Wings beats above them made them look up at a large pitch black Charizard. Sara glared at it while Sandler and Twili growled.

"Greyson... The genius of Pokemon kind." Sandler obviously knew him. "And a traitor to boot."

"Say what you will, but soon you will see.... You will all see that we Pokemon are far better than those powerless humans..." The Charizard roared back. "Without us they are nothing. Just hairless pink worms that we can easily squash. I see you still have your little pet Sandler."

"I can hear you..." Sara muttered, obviously being ignored by the dragon.

"You touch her and die." Sandler's eyes shown a bright blue. "You could never understand... What we've seen together, yes she is weak on her own. But... Her heart is why I stand beside her. Of my own choosing! From the egg to today I stand here! Because there is no one I'd rather stand beside..." A blue flame began to appear in his mouth. "Than her.... DRAGON PULSE!!!!"

A blast of pure energy rammed into the Charizard followed by a second one from Twili.

"Whoa!"

Instantly the Charizard retreated. "You always were the strongest... Anubis the Undying..." The dragon was injured badly just from that one hit as he staggered away.

"Humph. Fourteen years and he still thinks he can beat me?" Sandler huffed, steam leaving his mouth. "Even after my name change...."

"How'd you do that?"

Sandler looked at Gale. "Our kind can learn many powerful moves. Are you not aware of that?"

"Um...no?"

"Hmm... Well, Sara there taught me how to use my power correctly and for the right reasons." He sat down beside the kid. "Don't judge her based on what you've seen from other humans. She saved all of my team members from awful lives. Nix was born in a puppy mill and was the runt of her litter about to be slaughtered due to her size and sickly health. Sara and I stepped in and saved her, nursed her back to health and now Nix is the most cunning member of our team. Arthur was abused by his former owners. Kept in a very small cage with no food or water. Sara busted him out and took care of him until he was strong enough to fight on his own, he made the choice to become the knight he is today. Twili there was offered as a prize at some casino at some crazy high price. Poor guy was chained to his tank and could barely get his nose out of water to breathe. I don't how how she came up with the money but Sara got him and un chained him....he promptly fell for her and now will do anything to please her. Cookie of course she rescued from an experimental facility that would have used his power for evil. And me?....."

There was a long pause. "She...she raised me. According to her, after her old swampert died saving her and a friend from a cave in the man with her gave her my egg. I've never been in a pokeball.... Always walked beside her. She raised me to see the good in everyone. However, you cannot fight evil with power alone, it takes smarts too. She refused to teach me aura until a few years ago. I now understand why... Your heart and mind must be at peace before you can wield aura. So, she taught me how and when to use my powers. That is why I have never been defeated. I know each pokemon's weak spot's and types. With my abilities, I can one shot any Pokemon. But not because of my power... But because of the types of moves I use."

"So that little one was...a ..experiment?"

He nodded. "A clone of the legendary Dialga, master of time."

"Oh..I see..."

"What about you?" Sandler asked the kid. "Those aura burns come from when one tries to use aura but isn't ready... What did humans do to you?"

"Like I have to tell you." Gale got defensive.

"Very well..." Sandler stood up. "I just hope that your heart does not become like Greyson's after he left us." Then he turned and went to regroup with the team.

The Riolu just watched. "....."

They all looked like one big family with Sara like a mom of sorts as she bandaged up the few wounds on Arthur ("Artie you should really be more careful..." "Yes mam.") and the Pokemon like her kids.

Must be nice....

They kept the invitation to stay open for him. It was his choice as they said. Sara kept her distance, but she did change his bandages once a day to keep Gale's injuries from getting infected.

"I'm sure it's fine now."

"No harm in being safe than sorry sweetie." She smiled at him as she un wrapped the bandages for the last time. "There, all better."

"..........."

"Hey," She got his attention. "They can't touch you now. What ever they did to you... It's over now. You can go out into the world and carve out your own path, I can't grantee that it will be care free but... Surely it's better than where you came from. Or you can stay with us, those that care about you and can teach you how to defend yourself against others who might harm you and those you care about. It's your choice Gale and yours alone. But, if you do choose to go, take this with you." She gave him a bundle wrapped in a blue scarf. "You can't travel on an empty stomach or a thirsty throat."

"Your letting me have this?"

She nodded with a smile. "You're not the first we've taken care of. The few with me now are those that chose to stay. Many more leave... But each has their own scarf." She sighed as she looked down. "Except Greyson, he burned his.... Shame really, he was such a sweet little charmander..."

"I don't understand you humans."

"Hmmm...." She smiled again. "You don't have to. But you will one day understand why I do the things I do."

She stood up. "If you ever need help again, we are always willing to aid you. I look forward to seeing how you grow Gale."

She turned ready to walk away.

"Wait...."

She stopped and looked back at him. "Yes?"

He looked down. "I don't want to be...alone..."

"Oh Gale..." She knelt down and hugged the Riolu. "You're not alone... Not anymore."

~Sniff~

"It's okay to cry, I know it seems hard. But, it proves that you have feelings and it is a part of who you are." She was so caring, so much love in her heart that she even extended it to Pokemon she had just met. "I'm here for you Gale."

"We all are." Nix and the others had joined them.

"That nice..."

A group hug soon followed, comforting the little Riolu like the family he never had.

"So I can stay?"

After the group let him go Sara just smiled down at him. "Of course you can stay Gale."

"Thanks...."

"Hey, where'd Sandler go?" Nix looked around.

"He said he had something to take care of...." Sara shrugged. "I didn't push it."

"I'm gonna go find him so we can get moving." She bounded away as Sara stayed put.

"Traveling the world to help Pokemon in need. That's what we do." Sara explained to Gale. "Sandler and I used to battle but... That was a very long time ago. Back when his name was Anubis."

"Anubis?"

"He kinda looked like a mini Anubis when he hatched." She smiled at the memory. "I didn't know he would live up to it."

"But what's a Anubis?"

"Anubis is an ancient god of death from a culture from long ago." She pulled out a book to show him. "But his job was to guide souls to the afterlife so he wasn't really feared."

"Oh I get it."

"I'm a big fan of ancient history." She sweat dropped.

"Ah, so your a fan when you like something?"

"When you like it a lot." She chuckled, picking up the Riolu and letting him ride on her shoulder as Sandler and Nix returned. "But our group here, our feelings arent like friends...we're family. You got that kid?"

"I never had a family..."

"You do now." Sandler grinned as they all started walking down the path. "Welcome to the family Gale."

"Thanks...Where are we going?"

"Anywhere, nowhere, and everywhere." Nix chuckled. "That's our motto."

"It'll make sense soon enough." Sara chuckled. "But for now we are going to see if Sandler's helmet is repaired."

"So do you know alot about Aura?" Gale asked Sandler.

"I don't use it often." He told the Riolu. "I have other moves just as useful." He held up one paw with dark energy and the other paw with psychic energy. "Dark pulse, Psychic..." The dark energy was replaced by blue flame and the other with an aura orb. "...Dragon pulse, and Aura sphere." He put his paws together to put out the energy. "With those four moves you can beat nearly everything."

"I know Aura Sphere too."

"But you are far from ready to wield it." Sandler sighed.

"But I was trained too."

Sara and Sandler sighed and shook their heads.

"Gale... Let me put it this way." Sara spoke up. "There is a natural order to the way Pokemon and humans learn. Most of your kind don't learn aura until they are adults and have the clearness of mind and heart to learn it. Quick attack comes first, then force palm, and Aura sphere shouldn't come until much later. I may be human but I know aura and how it works. True, I can't wield it as a weapon like you or Sandler can. But I know..."

"But.." The Rilou looked at the ground.

"What's wrong sweetie?" Sara asked him.

"So even after those humans...It was for nothing?"

"Gale, what happened?" Sara said it gently.

"I don't want to talk about it.."

"...."Sara sighed. "Gale, we all have a tale to tell. I don't talk about mine much either. If you don't want to tell us that's okay, but don't hold it in forever. We are here for you. Whatever happened... That's in the past. Look to the future."

"Okay..."

"Hey." Sandler ruffled the kid's fur with a grin. "It'll be fine in the end, if it's not then it's not the end. You remember that young warrior."

The kid fixes his fur. "I just had that the way I liked."

Everyone laughed at that as they approched the town.

Gale read the sign out load. "Odd name."

"Yeah, most towns are like that."

"Blacksmith..." Sandler marched off as the rest followed right behind them.

"'Now where are we going?"  "Sandler's going to get his helmet. So we're going to walk around town a bit." Sara said.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sara let him walk beside her and Nix as they walked around but soon they were stopped in the road. Sara's eyes narrowed. "Another trainer."
"Where?" Gale asked.
"Over there," She jestured to the one boy walking towards them with a belt of poke balls around his waist. "Stay behind me Gale."
"Excuse me miss."
Nix let out a growl.
"Easy girl..." Sara warned her ninetails before glaring at the trainer. "What do you want?"
"I saw you have some pokemon and I was wanting to know if you'd battle me. I need some experience."
"I used to battle but that was a long time ago." She told him firmly.
"Oh..." He looked a little disappointed but smiled anyway. "Guess I'll ask around more."
She then looked past him. "Ah, Sandler there you are."
The lucario's appearance had been drastically changed by the addition of that helmet. He looked scary even.
"Whoa!"
(For appearance of helmet go here. fav.me/dsylcs )
"Young trainer," Sara was still speaking to the human as her Lucario joined her. "I would not go seeking us out again if I were you until you have a multitude of gym badges and hall of fame listings."
"Oh...um okay."
Sandler nodded his agreement before they headed off.  As they walked, something caught their eyes. Nix growled as she recognised the outfits. "Team Rocket..."
Sara and Sandler looked equally as annoyed.
Gale was confused.
"Like we said before Gale, there are good trainers like me....and then there are the evil ones." Sara took out her last pokeball, this one looked almost like it had fangs. "I won't bring him out unless I have to but.... I really hate team Rocket. Ever since I was a little girl they've been mistreating Pokemon."
"Worst of all... Some of their Pokemon are just as black hearted now." Sandler growled.
"We can't let them stay. Nix, Sandler, blast us an opening."
He nods and does so.
Sara picked up Gale and put him on her shoulder, "Hang on tight." When he did she tossed up the pokeball and huge Pokemon came out. "Hydra! Lets go!"
The hydredgion nodded and let her ride on his back as they flew through the gapeing hole in the building.
"Wow! We're flying!"  Gale exclaimed.
"This is Hydra, and he's one of the few who escaped these maniacs." Sara told the kid just before hydra burst into the main lecture hall where the rocket troops had gathered. "Alright! Nobody move! I've got a blue Godzilla here and I'm not afraid to use it!"
"Yikes!"
"Sandler, make sure none of them try to be sly! Nix, free the Pokemon in the back rooms!" She said it, as a leader or a parent would do. Not mean or barking orders harshly, but firm and determined. She was... Not too much unlike Sandler himself. Gale now could see that even though Sara was human, she didn't see her self as better than Pokemon she was their equal.
The impressed him.
Her pokemon pals rushed to follow her order's as Arthur darted out to get Officer Jenny.
"Hydra! Flamethrower!"
A roar followed by a blast of flame stopped the rocket members in their tracks.
"I did not say you could leave."
"Yikes!"
"Now SIT DOWN!" The entire room obeyed her command. She looked back to check on Gale. "You okay back there sweetie?"
"That was a little shocking."
"Don't let his fearsome looks fool you. He's a big teddy bear." She patted the shoulder of her dragon.
The Riolu had to smile. "I um..meant you."
"Hmm? What do you mean Gale?"
"You took such command, rallied the other pokemon..."
"We all need a little direction sometimes." She shrugged.
"You make me happy to be wrong about humans."  "Most humans. Really we are a lot like Pokemon. We can be both good or bad."
After Officer Jenny arrived (and the...fire, was put out) Sara landed Hydra and let Gale walk with Sandler while she talked to the police officer.
"You guys really kicked but." Gale beamed. "I want to protect like that too."
"It's all thanks to Sara," Sandler smiled. "I'm the oldest on the team but... Sara has been doing this a lot longer. However, even I don't know too much about her past other than that she's got a soft spot for Lucario and Riolu because a Lucario once saved her life."
"Wow, really?"
He nodded. "That trainer with the lucario back then was the one who taught her about aura. But...she doesn't talk much about it."
Sara finally got done. She put Hydra, Nix, and Arthur away before joining the two. "Alright we're done here, you two ready to go."
"Yep."
Sandler stood up from his seat. "Alright, let's get going."
They headed out finally glad to be out of there. "So would you train me?" Gale asked Sara.
"Sure thing kid." She smiled at him.
"When can we start? What are we going to do frist? "
"Calm down kiddo." Sandler laughed.
"Sandler's right, first we have to relocate to an area where you won't be over powered by the wild Pokemon."
"Alright, let's hurry and find the place!" Gale said excitedly.
Sara laughed as they headed off one more time. "It's gonna take a while. So.." She put Gale on her shoulders again. "Sit tight."
"Okay."
